How To Play

Basic Gameplay

Each week, before the start of the elimination show, you'll rank each remaining contestant. That's it. It's just that easy.

The order of the ranking of contestants is from the most likely to win American Idol to the most likely to be eliminated this week. In this example, there are 12 contestants left. You will put contestant names into each ranking.

12. This spot is for the person who you think is most likely to win American Idol.
11. This spot is for the person who you think is next most likely to win American Idol.

Scoring

Every time a contestant is eliminated, you earn points. Here's how: We take the number of weeks the contestant survived, and multiply it by his/her rank in every previous week.

Example of Scoring

It's week three, and Aaron Kelly has just been eliminated. We will multiply Aaron's ranking in each week by three. See the example below.

Your Week 1 Rankings

12. Lee DeWyze
11. David Duke
10. Andrew Garcia
9 . Chris Golightly
8. Tyler Grady
7. Benjamin Honeycutt
6. Casey James
5. Aaron Kelly (Rank 5 * Week 3 elimination = 15 points)
4. Alexander Lambert
3. Michael Lynche
2. Jermaine Sellers
1. John Park

Your Week 2 Rankings

12. David Duke
11. Lee DeWyze
10. Andrew Garcia
9 . Benjamin Honeycutt
8. Tyler Grady
7. Chris Golightly
6. Casey James
5. Alexander Lambert
4. Aaron Kelly (Rank 4 * Week 3 elimination = 12 points)
3. Michael Lynche
2. John Park
1. Jermaine Sellers

Your Week 3 Rankings

12. Lee DeWyze
11. David Duke
10. Andrew Garcia
9 . Casey James
8. Tyler Grady
7. Aaron Kelly (Rank 7 * Week 3 elimination = 21 points)
6. Chris Golightly
5. Benjamin Honeycutt
4. Alexander Lambert
3. John Park
2. Michael Lynche
1. Jermaine Sellers

So, in week three, Aaron Kelly was eliminated, and earned your team 15+12+21=48 points.

Elimination Scoring #1

If the person in your bottom ranking (position #1) is eliminated, you earn 50 bonus points.

Elimination Scoring #2

Usually on elimination shows, there will be a "bottom three" (or sometimes a "bottom two"), which represent the three (or two) worst vote getters for the week. Each of your bottom three (or two) who match the week's bottom three (or two), earn 25 points.

Question: What if the show simply sends more than one contestant home but doesn't provide a "bottom three"? Will I get "bottom three" bonus points for the contestants that were eliminated?
Answer: Yes. Your team will earn 25 bonus points for each contestant eliminated which you have also ranked as "bottom three". But you will not earn an additional 50 points for each elimination. The 50 point elimination bonus is reserved for your last ranked contestant. Basically, the most you can ever earn per week on bonuses is 125 points. 3 times 25 for "bottom three" and 50 for correctly selecting an eliminated contestant as your last ranked contestant.

Question:  How is the scoring for the winning (final) contestant scored?
Answer: Since the winning contestant is never eliminated, the points for the winning contestant are earned as follows. The winning contestant will move on to a new week. The scoring is then processed and the winning contestant will earn points using that week's multiplier (final week + 1). Elimination bonus points are not awarded for the wining contestant.

Strategy

Imagine that 12 weeks have gone by, and David Duke is eliminated. You'll be multiplying every single week of your rankings for David by a whopping 12 points. If you had David highly ranked each week, you're going to make a ton of points.

I believe there is only one strategy that will pay off in the long run: Rank the best long-term contestants at the top of the list. Rank the people most likely to go home this week at the bottom of your list.

Payouts

The following payout structure only applies to league "Charch's 2010 Idol League".

Winner: 65% of the pot
2nd Place: 25% of the pot
3rd Place: 10% of the pot
In the event of a tie, winnings are split.
